Rumball, fireflies and something inside my head.

The sickeningly sweet rumball refused to melt inside my mouth.A rush of blood, and I was sitting amongst the stars that had dropped down from the sky. They were all around me, floating in the air, swishing past, zig-zagging across every time I tried catching hold of them. Not that the sky was emptied, though. There was the evening star, looking straight at me, from so far away.Glaring,almost.There were these other stars, blinking feebly, as if they were terribly confused, bewildered and worried about me.Heh.

It was the power cut that had woken me up from the deep slumber, at seven in the evening.I was sweaty and nauseating and paranoid about stuff that was surreal, non existent even.Hunger pangs directed me to the rumballs, and the black darkness around led me to my balcony.
There I saw them.Hundreds of thousands of them.Fireflies.They were swirling and dancing, celebrating their moment of fame. The house right opposite my apartment is a gloomy one, even when there is no load shedding. The people in that house probably don't switch on the lights, ever. With the powercut, and the whole locality blacked out, apart from a few candles flickering on some random window sills, the fireflies were the only ones to fight the darkness.

I have never had a dream come true, this fast

The rumballs I miss. The fireflies bring back an old memory of glowing pyjamas.

I've never felt the same about them again.

Still miss the rumbles of rumballs though...

the intricacies of life often go unnoticed. your post reminds me of the lonely nights I used to spend on the rooftops of my hostel, occassionally with a beer bottle in my hand. Ahhhh! that was heaven!
